Living With A Writer—A Family's Perspective

Happy September!

I thought we'd take a break this week and step into a fun, made-up world. We know what goes on in our heads, but have you ever thought about how your family feels about the writer side of you? Let's take a little peak into their minds. Oh, and I included the dog and the bird, too. I hope you enjoy it!

👧🏼 "Mom! MOM! I'm hungry. Can I have breakfast? No, I don't want the cereal that Emmy in your book likes to eat. I want pancakes! You know . . . pancakes with lots of butter and yummy syrup. Yes, you are right. Emmy looks SUPER cute when she eats her cereal, but I still want pancakes, please can I have . . ."

🐶 ". . . a treat? I've been a really good boy. I ate all my dinner. I made sure you knew I needed to go out and go potty. I know you heard me ring the bell because you came right to me with my harness. See? I was a good boy. No potty in the house. Nope. And I came running to you as soon as you said 'Stanley, Come!' Remember? So, can you please put your notepad down and give me a little. . ."

👨🏼 ". . . attention! Can you focus on me for a second? I see that far away look in your eyes. Your head is in your book isn't it? We need to discuss my cousin Sid's wedding. I cleared my schedule so we could go. We can't disappoint cousin Sid! What are we going to get them. I have no clue. Do you? Please don't tell me we should get them a nice coffee table book. I happen to know my cousin isn't fond of reading. So, will you please . . ."

🦜 ". . . STOP typing! I'm sure you're in the middle of a brilliant sentence but didn't you hear my squawks? When I squawk, that means 'I want a treat!' I've been cute. I said, 'Hiiiiiiii!' when you walked into your office. I know you heard me because you smiled. Look, I'll even make the funny eating noise that always makes you say 'Yum!' afterward. I know you love that! So please, oh please stop typing and give me a treat!"

Oh, the joy of fiction! Isn't it fun? As writers we are so lucky that we get to play with words. Writing brings me such joy. I'm grateful for that. When you sit down to write, I hope it's your happy place, too. As creative people, we must create. Hooray for us! And hooray for writing (even if the family must work to get our attention at times!)

Happy writing!
